Two shut-out wins, lead to a six-point weekend for Leaside U22 Elite

Another great weekend for the Leaside U22 Elite Wildcats, as they notched 6 out of an available 6 points, with two shut-out wins.


On Saturday, the team held the Southwest Wildcats to 13 shots in a 2-0 win. Leaside goals came from Sadie Lovering (game winning goal, assisted by Ava Myers) and Elizabeth Shapira (assisted by Riley Stansfield). Sara Da Silva earned her first shutout of the regular season.

Sunday’s back and forth game against Brampton Canadettes resulted in another 2-0 victory. Sarah-Lynne Gauthier turned away 27 shots for the shut-out. Sadie Lovering scored her second game winning goal of the weekend, assisted by Kaitlyn Towle and Siena Harris. Harris followed that up with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.


The successful weekend lifts Leaside to 7 points on the season, with a 2-3 record (with an OT loss earning a point for a regulation time tie).


Leaside will be on the road this weekend, visiting the Central York Panthers on October 28th at 2PM, Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex and heading to Waterloo on Sunday, October 29th to play the Ravens at RIM Park, at 2PM.


ABOUT THE PROGRAM:


The Toronto Leaside Girls Hockey Association (TLGHA), one of the largest female hockey associations in the world, has a long history of making the great game of hockey available to young female athletes. Its U22 Elite program represents its pinnacle and since its inaugural season in 2013/14 has supported hundreds of elite athletes in realizing their potential, on and off the ice. The program boasts a roster of 70+ players who have gone on to compete for championships at the USport and NCAA level and professionally, as well as several high finishes in league play in the very competitive OWHA U22 Elite league. The 2023/24 season represents the TLGHA’s 50th anniversary and a renewed focus on restoring the program to its place at the top of elite female junior hockey.
